Stand up straight, we’re told! But how? Chiropractic and your posture

February 27, 2023

It’s something we heard many times while growing up from our parents and teachers: Stand up straight! And, indeed, encouraging good posture is a worthy reminder at any age. Our chiropractor Springfield Chiropractic Clinic is keenly aware of the importance of “standing up straight,” and bad posture is one of the most common conditions we observe among our patients.

Millions of Americans suffer from poor posture, which can lead to back pain, spinal dysfunction, joint degeneration, respiratory problems and more, according to a study by the American Chiropractic Association. Among the chief causes are weak or tight neck, back and shoulder muscles; being overweight; poor footwear; an injury; or occupation-related. In addition to health concerns, a slumping posture doesn’t do your appearance and self-confidence any favors.

During your initial visit, our chiropractor will take the time to ask about your family and medical history, fitness and activity levels, sleep habits and any other factors which may be contributing to your overall health. These all play a role in determining our holistic approach to achieving health and well-being by stimulating the body’s natural healing power.

To achieve proper posture, our chiropractor uses a gentle, hands-on technique known as an adjustment to align the spine, restoring movement to joints that may have become restricted because of an injury or repetitive stress over time. We’ll also teach you how to maintain the correct posture when sitting, standing and even sleeping. By bringing the body into balance naturally, we seek to help our patients avoid surgery or the need to take medication.

Our chiropractor at Springfield Chiropractic Clinic provides a level of personal attention and hands-on care that places our practice in the top tier of our healing profession. Our patients experience the difference this personal touch makes the moment they first walk in the door. Please contact our office today to schedule an evaluation!
