When we describe our practice at Springfield Chiropractic Clinic as being a holistic chiropractor, what exactly do we mean by that, and how does it guide the way we approach our patients?
First, here’s how the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word holistic: “Relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts.”
To our chiropractor and our entire staff, this means treating each patient as a whole person whose overall health is more than a particular symptom or symptoms. Our bodies are composed of a complex system of organs that are interconnected so that what affects one is often linked to an issue occurring elsewhere. What we’re all about is promoting total body wellness — without potentially harmful medications or invasive surgery.
So, you may ask, how does that affect the treatment I’ll receive during my visit? Upon your first visit to our office, we’ll take an abundance of time to get a complete picture of your physical and mental health, including family and medical history, diet and nutrition, sleep habits, posture, fitness/activity level — anything about your background and lifestyle that can help us treat you.
From there we shall employ natural healing techniques including massage to reduce pain and inflammation from injury or arthritis and promote muscle function. A key chiropractic technique is a gentle manipulation of the spine called an adjustment, which has an immense effect on overall health. The proper alignment of the spine is critical to how we move and to the function of our circulatory system.
Unlike other medical practices and medications, we don’t promise a quick fix. It will require at least several visits to attain our goals and possibly more to maintain them. But many of our patients begin to experience results after their first visit.
