Treating Back Pain

March 30, 2024

Did you know that 80% of adults suffer from debilitating back and neck pain at some point in their lives? In fact, according to statistics from The National Institutes of Health, $75-90 billion is spent on back pain relief annually in the United States alone. While these figures are alarming, the symptoms of back pain are treatable and many back injuries are preventable. With skilled chiropractic care from the office of Springfield Chiropractic Clinic, we can help alleviate the discomfort of back pain and help restore optimal function and mobility.

Often, the causes of back pain are related to musculoskeletal injuries rather than underlying diseases. Overuse, heavy lifting, poor body mechanics, prolonged sitting or lying down, and sleeping in an awkward position, all contribute to the development of back pain. With back issues, you may experience limited range of motion, stiffness, and muscle and/or joint pain. To locate the origin of the pain, we’ll employ a variety of diagnostic tests including applied kinesiology, or muscle testing. This non-invasive test confirms the cause of the weakness. Once the location(s) of the injury is isolated, we have many methods of care and modalities to coax the body back into homeostasis and proper alignment. Back pain can be treated using a variety of chiropractic techniques. We can treat disc lesions and related spinal conditions with precise spinal manipulation, spinal decompression, instrument-assisted connective tissue procedures and more. While spinal manipulations realign the vertebrae to take pressure off the spinal nerves, spinal decompression therapy releases pressure on the intervertebral discs, spinal nerves, and stretches tight lumbar muscles. We may also recommend electrotherapy, hot/cold therapy, and cold laser treatments reduce inflammation and control pain. With such a wide variety of modalities at our disposal, you can feel confident that we can provide effective treatments for a broad spectrum of physical conditions; particularly lower back pain. In addition, preventative support to help avoid injury during physical activity is also discussed.
